When you donate to Chez Doris, your gift will have an impact on women who come to Chez Doris for help from all corners of Montreal and beyond. In order to fulfill our mandate 7 days a week, we largely depend on private donations and grants for operating budget of approximately $2,035,763. In 2018-19, Chez Doris purchased a building for $1,025,000 with the goal of opening an emergency shelter for women in 2020. Our medium to long-term needs are to raise at least $750,000 for essential renovations as well as furniture and equipment for the newly acquired building and subsequently raise funds for its annual operating costs. As well, also in 2020, Chez Doris will launch a permanent residence with 26 units in collaboration with the Société d’habitation de Montréal. Chez Doris is responsible for the purchase of equipment and furniture estimated to cost $365,000 as well as eventual operating costs associated with the social support given to the tenants, which is estimated to be $150,000 annually. Major funding for start-up and annual costs are sought for both of these projects which will expand Chez Doris’ mission.

All monetary donations are tax-deductible.  Our charitable registration number is 101835841RR0001, and our official name is Chez Doris Women’s Shelter Foundation.

All donors are automatically put on our mailing list to receive our bi-annual newsletter and e-invitations. All active donors and others who steadily support the mission and objectives of Chez Doris, are invited to our Annual General Meetings, and are adopted as members of Chez Doris at the first Board of Directors’ meeting of each new calendar year. Donors of $250 and up will receive a mailed copy of our annual report.  Donors’ contact information will never be sold, shared or rented.

Make a Gift of Life Insurance

There are various ways to give a gift of life insurance, which include:

  • Transferring ownership of an existing, fully paid life insurance policy to Chez Doris, and receiving a charitable gift receipt.
  • Applying for a new life insurance policy, with Chez Doris as its owner, and receiving a tax receipt for the premiums paid.
  • Making Chez Doris the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, and your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt for the death benefits.

There are various ways to bequeath Chez Doris in your will.  You can leave a percentage of your estate, the residue or a specific cash donation, a paid-up life insurance policy, securities or property, which will reduce the tax payable on your estate.

If you decide to bequeath Chez Doris in your will, here is some wording that will help:

  • To donate a residue of your estate, an identified percentage of what is left in your estate after taxes, debts and other bequests are paid:

“I give ___percent (x%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to Chez Doris Women’s Shelter Foundation for its general purposes”.

  • To donate a specific amount of money or specific asset:

“I give the sum of $_______to Chez Doris Women’s Shelter Foundation for its general purposes”.
“I give ___ shares of (Company Name) to Chez Doris Women’s Shelter Foundation for its general purposes”.

Chez Doris

We are open on Good Friday! For breakfast we had: Cereal, bagels with cream cheese, yogurt parfaits, assorted mini quiches, grapes, orange juice, coffee and tea. Claire Keys sang for the women followed by bingocand prizes (Tim Horton Gift Cards, Chocolates and more…)

For lunch there is: Carrot Soup with buns, salmon, asparagus and roasted sweet potatoes. Tiramisu cake for dessert. Afterwards, Magician Philip and Henry will entertain the ladies. During the show each woman will receive a food bag including great chocolates and other sweets! As well, each woman will leave with a goodie bag which includes jewelry and makeup.

All this was made possible with the money raised from the mitten project. Thank you to Tina and the women of Chez Doris who worked so hard making the mittens and to all those who purchased the mittens.

Chez Doris

Many thanks to Station 12 for dropping by with a check to Chez Doris (pictured from left to right are Station 12 Commander Martine Dubuc, Marina Boulos from Chez Doris and Agent Adalbert Pimentel also from Station 12). Every Fall, the Montreal Police Brotherhood hold a Baked Beans Day, where a lunch of baked beans is sold to the public (about eight metric tons of beans plus accompaniments…that’s a lot of beans)! The profits, which reach $80,000, go to many, many community organizations throughout the city. ... See MoreSee Less

Chez Doris

Last week, West Island resident Sarah Alter was back to provide a third annual ‘’Spa Day’’ for the women at Chez Doris! This year, six volunteers from Salon Vibes in Pierrefonds helped 30 women feel glamorous, with new haircuts, blow-dries and manicures. A nice occasion for the women to feel pampered thanks to the dedication of volunteers and donors! During their salon treatments women enjoyed fruit salad provided by IGA from Marché de l’ouest and sandwich and pastry platters from Snowden Deli. All participants received gift bags filled with Arbonne Canada products. In total $2,500 was raised from donors to purchase all the “Spa Day" beauty products.
